Free Activities

City Orientation for new students

A 45-minute walk through Dublin city centre with our Emerald Guide. Transport tickets will be discussed as well. A great activity for new students on their first day.

INIS seminar

This seminar is for all new students who will need to go and register with the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service. Opening a bank account, requesting a PPS number, and taking holidays will be discussed as well.

Catch up with students

Meet up with students to share their experiences at the Emerald School and provide them with personal support.

Botanic Gardens

The National Botanic Gardens of Ireland are an oasis of calm and beauty, and entry is free. A premier scientific institution, the Gardens contain important collections of plant species and cultivars from all over the world. Please sign up for this activity by Wednesday. NMI Natural History Museum

This museum is famous for its Victorian cabinet style, which houses one of the world’s finest and fullest collections still to be seen today. This zoological museum encompasses outstanding examples of wildlife from Ireland and the far corners of the globe, some to be seen today and others long extinct. Please sign up for this activity by Wednesday. River Dodder Walk

Enjoy a walk along the river Dodder while chatting with other students. This is a good activity to do some sport and make new friends. Please sign up for this activity by Tuesday. Emerald reserves the right to cancel this activity due to a low number of participants (minimum 6 students required).

Hugh Lane

The gallery’s original collection of modern art was presented by Sir Hugh Lane in 1908 and has, over the last century been enhanced by notable bequests, gifts and acquisitions including Francis Bacon’s Studio and Archive and Sean Scully’s gift of paintings. Please sign up for this activity by Wednesday, April 19. Paid Activities

Dublin Castle

Constructed in the early thirteenth century on the site of a Viking settlement, Dublin Castle served for centuries as the headquarters of English, and later British, administration in Ireland. In 1922, following Ireland’s independence, Dublin Castle was handed over to the new Irish government. Please sign up for this activity by Wednesday. Guinness Storehouse

The Guinness Storehouse is Ireland’s number visitor attraction. Not only do we offer a special discounted price for ECI students, but we also provide an ECI guide to accompany students to the venue. The tour lasts about 1 hour and finishes up on the seventh floor, in the Gravity Bar with some specular views of Dublin and of course, a complimentary pint of Guinness. Please sign up for this activity by Wednesday. The Book of Kells

The Book of Kells is the centrepiece of an exhibition which attracts over 500,000 visitors to Trinity College in Dublin City each year. Written around the year 800 AD, the Book of Kells contains a richly decorated copy of the four gospels in a Latin text, based on the Vulgate edition (completed by St. Jerome in 384 AD). Please sign up for this activity by Wednesday. Irish Whiskey Museum

Learn the origins of Irish whiskey and discover some new Irish brands. 1-hour guided tour and 3 whiskey tastings. Soft drinks are included for non-drinking adults. Please sign up for this activity by Wednesday. Emerald reserves the right to cancel this activity due to a lownumber of participants.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral, founded in 1911, and is currently the national cathedral of the Church of Ireland. Since Saint Patrick baptised Christian converts nearby over 1500 years ago, this holy site has been a place of spiritual encounter for countless generations. Please sign up for this activity by Wednesday.
