Ireland
For such a small country, the Republic of Ireland has earned a remarkable standing in the world. Situated in the North West of Europe, on the Atlantic Coast, it is a country of just over three and a half million inhabitants, and yet, as a result of widespread emigration over the past one hundred and fifty years, people in countries all over the world are proud to claim Irish descent.
The Irish are renowned for their friendliness and for their
tradition of hospitality. They have also earned a reputation
for academic excellence over the years. Education and the
skills of communication have always been highly valued and
Ireland has produced many famous writers such as Jonathan
Swift, Oscar Wilde and James Joyce. Ireland genuinely welcomes
visitors from all over the world, and is an ideal environment
for language learning.
Ireland has undergone rapid industrial and economical development
over the past thirty years without losing its own distinctive
identity, or its strong sense of traditional values. Visitors
marvel at the striking landscape, with its green unspoilt
countryside, clean beaches and magnificent coastline.

| Dublin City |
Dublin is the capital city of Ireland and has a rich and
varied history spanning more than a thousand years. With
a population of approximately 1.5 million, Dublin has all
the advantages of a capital city while retaining the charm
and warmth of a smaller one.
It is a lively and bustling city, with plenty to offer by
way of shopping and entertainment. Dublin is proud of its
many theatres and its strong dramatic tradition. Leading
Irish playwrights include Goldsmith, Shaw, Synge, O'Casey
and Beckett. Irish pubs are famous throughout the world and
the Irish music scene is a very lively and exciting one.
Few capitals are so beautifully situated. Dublin Bay forms
a sweeping crescent from the Hill of Howth in the north of
the city to Killiney in the south. The Hills of Dublin and
the neighbouring county of Wicklow are within easy reach
of the city centre. There is no shortage of sporting or leisure
facilities in Dublin and most parts of Ireland, including
the renowned scenic areas of Galway, Cork, Kerry and Donegal,
are easily accessible by train or bus from Dublin.
